Maite Solé has been a member of the Foundation’s board of trustees since her appointment as spokesperson on 14 November 2005.

She played a key role in setting up the scientific committee that advises the Foundation on matters of this nature and was entrusted with setting out the terms and conditions for the awarding of science research grants and the selection and supervision of projects financed by the Foundation. She is also the board of trustees’ delegated representative on the scientific committee.

Dr Solé has a solid scientific background, graduating with a degree in medicine and surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and she has held clinical fellowships in different countries, including the United States, Sweden, Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan.

She is a certified specialist in human genetics and undertook post-graduate studies in biomedical research into human genetics at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. In addition, she is the director and author of the free website Genetics made easy, Dr Solé has undertaken important work teaching and disseminating genetics and related subjects, and has taken part in a large number of international conferences and symposiums. She collaborates with different book and magazine publishers.

Formerly she has been the head of the Genetics Department and Clinical Genetics Unit of the Dexeus University Institute and the medical director of the Cellular Pathology Centre of Barcelona.
